Stories of choices, passion, and innovation: voices of young women in STE(A)M that can inspire you.Born in Milan in 1985, Giulia Suarato graduated summa cum laude in Materials Engineering from the Politecnico di Milano in 2010. She obtained her Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from Stony Brook University (State University of New York, New York, USA) in 2016, studying multifunctional nanomicelles for controlled drug release in 2D and 3D cellular systems.
From 2016 to 2021 she was a postdoctoral researcher at the Italian Institute of Technology in Genoa, in the Smart Materials group and in the Translational Pharmacology Facility, developing intelligent and biodegradable biomedical devices, taking inspiration from Nature and using as raw materials bioresources and natural waste, with the aim of developing technological solutions for a more sustainable healthcare system.
Since December 2021, she has been a researcher at the Institute of Electronics, Information Engineering and Telecommunications of the National Research Council (CNR-IEIIT), where she studies nanomaterials and nanostructures activatable by electromagnetic fields through in silico and in vitro approaches, for the stimulation of cells and tissues and for the delivery of bioactive molecules.
