Promoted by Women&Tech ® - Association of Women and Technologies - ETS, the International Technovisionary® Award is given to women who, in their professional activities, have demonstrated vision, prioritizing social impact, transparency in behavior, and ethics. The award ceremony, carried out by a Jury composed of qualified representatives from the thematic areas of the different contest categories, the world of culture and communication, will take place on June 5, 2023.

The event, now in its 17th edition, focuses this year on "ENERGY AND THE ENVIRONMENT, FEMALE EXCELLENCE". The rationale is clear: in a historical phase where the cost of energy has skyrocketed uncontrollably, supply security has returned to be the priority and business productivity must bring the economic and social benefits of ecological transition, the role of women is still marginal.

The first edition [1] of the World Energy Employment Report drafted by the International Energy Agency (IEA) reveals that employment in the energy sector - about 2% of the total workforce, amounting to over sixty-five million people - is on the rise worldwide and is set to grow, with a significant emphasis on skills development, but also highlights that women are significantly underrepresented. Despite accounting for 39% of global employment, women in the energy sectors make up only 16% of the total. And, just as in employment, women also make up a very small percentage of senior energy executives, just under 14% on average, percentages too low to advocate for data-driven solutions at international discussion tables. Yet, American ecologist and entrepreneur Paul Awken, in "Drawdown: The Most Comprehensive Plan Ever Proposed to Reverse Global Warming," cites female emancipation and education among the six most effective plans to combat climate change [2].

Even though there are no substantial differences in female employment between fossil fuels and clean energy, the report highlights that clean energy start-ups show signs of change, with a higher proportion of female founders and inventors, although still well below parity.

The current context brings us back to the challenge of reconciling the energy trilemma, that is, the need to consider synergistically and complementarily three fundamental dimensions: energy security, cost accessibility, and environmental sustainability. And it is precisely in this context that the European Commission has launched the RePowerEU Plan, aimed at further promoting the diversification of European sources and supply routes and reducing dependence on Russian gas also through increased use of renewable sources and energy efficiency. An initiative that rebalances the evolution of the mix towards a decarbonized system and therefore towards a fair, equitable, inclusive, and supportive transition. Better diversity improves performance, long-term competitiveness, and ensures greater innovation, all factors that contribute to the necessary progress to achieve climate change goals.

The professionals who will be honored this year, our next Technovisionaries, will carry out different works, but will certainly be united by common values: competence, determination, sensitivity, a full vision of the market and global trends in which they operate. Women who, every day, surpass cultural limits and the separation of knowledge, aiming to accelerate the growth of energy industries in respect of environmental objectives, so that progress and its benefits are truly within everyone's reach.

Revelations of talent, ingenuity, genius, intelligence, creativity,
flair, fantasy, imagination, intuition, inspiration, inventiveness, positivity.

It is women who invent the future .
