She has been a Regional Councillor, Member of the Chamber of Deputies and the Italian Senate, Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Minister for European Affairs and Relations with Parliament. In 2004 she was elected to the European Parliament. A member of the S&D group, she is vice-chair of the ITRE committee.
Patrizia Toia was born in Pogliano Milanese (Milan); she graduated in Political Science from the University of Milan. She served as regional councilor in Lombardy, with various responsibilities (Health, Budget). She was a member of the Chamber of Deputies and in 1996 she was elected to the Senate of the Republic.
He has held several institutional positions: Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs with responsibility for Latin America, Asia and Oceania, Relations with the United Nations, Human Rights, Migration and Italians abroad, in 1999 she was appointed Minister for European Affairs and Minister for Relations with Parliament.
In 2004, she was elected to the European Parliament, reconfirmed in 2009, 2014, and 2019, Member of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats (S&D) Group, she is Vice-President of the Industry, Research and Energy Committee. She is also a substitute member of the Development Committee and the Transport Committee.
