Maria Pia Abbracchio is a full professor of pharmacology at the University of Milan, where she currently also serves as Vice Chancellor and Vice Rector for Research and Innovation. She is Vice President of the Unimi Foundation, whose aim is to translate the results of laboratory research into applications useful for human, animal, and environmental health. Her research is focused on developing innovative therapies for neurodegenerative diseases. She is the author/co-author of over 200 scientific publications found in international scientific databases, and has received several awards for scientific merit. In 2014, President Giorgio Napolitano appointed her as a Commander of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic. She is President of Gruppo2003 for scientific research, a non-profit association that brings together the most cited Italian scientists in the world (less than 0.5% of all scientists who publish their results). She is also a member of the Lombardy Cluster of Life Sciences, which brings together public and private actors in the fields of diagnostics, advanced therapies, medical devices, and new health technologies, with the aim of creating new opportunities for the region.

Maria P. Abbracchio is Full Professor of Pharmacology at the University of Milan, where she currently serves as Vice-Chancellor and Vice Rector for Research and Innovation. She is also Vice President of Fondazione Unimi that aims at translating results from basic research into products and applications for human, animal, and environmental health. Her research is mainly focused on the setup of novel therapies for neurodegenerative diseases, with an increasing interest in Big Data. She is the author/co-author of more than 200 scientific publications in international indexed Journals and has been granted various Scientific Prizes. In 2014, she was nominated Commander of the Highest Order of Merit of the Italian Republic (motu proprio by President Giorgio Napolitano) and she is President-Elect of Gruppo2003 per la ricerca scientifica, which gathers the most cited Italian scientists ("highly cited scientists", less than 0.5% of all publishing scientists). She is also a member-elect of the Lombardy’s Life Sciences Cluster that brings together public and private players in diagnostics, advanced therapies, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and healthcare technologies, to create new business opportunities for its territory.
