Maria Letizia Giorgetti is an Associate Professor of Applied Economics at the Department of Economics, Management and Quantitative Methods at the University of Milan. Maria Letizia specializes in Industrial Economics, focusing her scientific research on empirical studies on market structure, dynamics, and the role of Innovation. Her research particularly concerns the pharmaceutical sector and manufacturing sectors in general. She is a strong advocate for a close interaction between academia, entrepreneurs, and policymakers in defining appropriate industrial policies. Currently, she teaches Advanced Industrial Organization in the Master's Degree in Management of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the University of Milan.

Maria Letizia holds a PhD in Industrial Economics from the Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies in Pisa, a Master's degree in Economics from the University of Turin, and a Bachelor's degree in Economics from the University of Pisa. After completing her PhD, she obtained a post-doctorate and a position as a visiting scholar respectively at the University of Brescia and at the London School of Economics (LSE). At LSE, she conducted research under the supervision of Professor John Sutton. Maria Letizia has served as a consultant to the European Parliament on EU Industrial Policy (co-authoring a report published by the European Parliament in February 2015), and has been among the CEG experts providing economic consultations on antitrust and competition issues in various markets. Previously, at the National Institute of Statistics (ISTAT) Business Division, she focused on analyses of concentration and competitiveness in various industrial sectors (1997-1999) and coordinated the Telecommunications Survey (1999).

He has taught at prestigious Italian universities: at Bocconi, Microeconomics, at Cattolica Macroeconomics and Economics of Innovation and Competitiveness. He regularly participates in the main international conferences in Industrial Economics in the USA, IIOC (International Industrial Organization Conference), and in Europe (EARIE European Association for Research in Industrial Economics) to present his research.

He has published in major international journals including: Journal of Industrial Economics, Journal of Applied Econometrics, Economic Modelling, Applied Economics, Industry and Innovation, European Review of Industrial and Economic Policy, Economic Modelling.

From October 2021 to November 2022, she was selected to be part of a team of 10 experts in industrial policy at the Ministry of Economic Development (now Mimit).

She participated in October 2022 as a speaker at the OECD in Paris at the Workshop on New Industrial Tools to support European Economic Convergence.
