Women&Tech® Young AmbassadorsNow I am a PhD student at the University of Genoa, at the Italian Institute of Technology. I graduated in Biological Sciences at the University of Catania with a thesis carried out in the laboratories of the University of Szeged (HU) investigating the role of non-coding RNAs in inflammations related to psoriasis.
Continues his studies in Molecular Biotechnology at the University of Pisa. Here he graduates with a thesis at the Scuola Normale Superiore on the use of recombinant fluorescent proteins for the study of axonal transport in peripheral neurons. Shortly after, he obtains a collaboration at the start-up of Fair Fusion (NL), where he holds the role of responsible for the research line on the use of biotechnological systems to degrade components of polymeric nature.
At the Genoa headquarters of the Italian Institute of Technology, where she currently works, she is pursuing a Ph.D. focusing on the development of the cortex and neural regeneration in adults. "The role of researchers in disseminating their work to as many people as possible is a duty," she explains, "as it is essential to bridge the (apparent) gap between those who do science and those who benefit from it."
For me, in addition to being a duty, it is above all a pleasure: I find it stimulating and, at times, even inspirational to talk about what I do and involve those who do not work in science. When the person in front of me smiles with wide eyes, asking me to know more... there, I understand that what I do is the right thing.
