SAP Italy together with Women & Technologies to promote female talent in technology, innovation, and scientific research.

Vimercate, May 18, 2022 Currently, in Europe, women represent only one third of STEM graduates and only 15.5% of startups have women founders. In Italy, according to the Ministry of University and Research, in 2021, 22% of girls enrolled in university chose a STEM course. These discouraging data demonstrate how much work still needs to be done to achieve equal access for boys and girls to technical-scientific disciplines and to combat the biases underlying this gap.

To improve this situation, SAP Italia has renewed its partnership with the association Women & Technologies for the 3rd consecutive year. The association focuses on promoting female talent in technology, innovation, and scientific research, as well as promoting projects and actions aimed at combating stereotypes and gender discrimination, contributing to guiding young people towards future careers and sustainable professional paths.

Several initiatives are planned for 2022, starting with the event "Digital transition, social and environmental sustainability: job opportunities?" which will take place on May 23. An opportunity for university students to engage in dialogue with experts from companies, institutions, and the academic world to analyze the close interrelationships between ecological and social transition, digitalization, and the priority challenges of a new industrial policy that combines innovation and sustainability in all its dimensions. Speakers will include Alessia Cappello, Councillor for Economic Development and Labor Policies, Municipality of Milan, Oscar Di Montigny, Chief Innovability & Value Strategy Officer at Banca Mediolanum and President of Flowe, Maria Letizia Giorgetti, Assistant Professor of Applied Economics at the Department of Economics, Management, and Quantitative Methods, University of Milan, and Matteo Losi, Head of Architects and Innovation - Presales EMEA South SAP.

"Digitization is becoming one of the most important engines of change in all sectors, and technological skills, albeit to varying degrees, are now part of every professional path. A society that does not create conditions for equal access of girls and boys to STEM disciplines is a society that misses the opportunity to benefit from the innovative ideas of half of its population. For this reason, as SAP, we are very proud to be once again alongside Women & Technologies to collaborate in reducing the gender gap in the technological field and support inclusion," stated Carla Masperi , Chief Operating Officer, acting Country Manager of SAP Italy.

"The socio-economic scenario that is emerging requires reflection from all the actors involved in the revival of our country to develop together - companies, institutions, and schools - a system of education and training of quality that is able to accompany young people in the world of work," says Gianna Martinengo, entrepreneur and founder of Women&Tech. "It is therefore essential to increase the skills of the new generations and guide them towards suitable paths, such as focusing on digital skills, scientific disciplines, innovation, and sustainability, enhancing the training commitment of companies. It is in this perspective that the collaboration with SAP Italia fits in, to promote together a training culture that helps the labor market to intercept talents and accelerate ongoing innovation processes".
