T-essere: The Mothers of the Constitution - The story of the 21 women who wrote our Constitution
October 12, 2021 at 6:00 PM
Meeting-dialogue with Eliana Di Caro, journalist from Il Sole 24 Ore and author of the book "The Mothers of the Constitution"
On June 2, 1946, the Italians chose the Republic. That day, for the first time, Italian women also participated in the elections. Among the 556 parliamentarians who were elected to be part of the Constituent Assembly, there were 21 women, who therefore contributed to the drafting of the Constitution. 21 women belonging to different parties, coming from different geographical areas, and of different political beliefs, but who were decisive in the recognition of equality in the family and in work, and more generally for the realization and consolidation of democracy in Italy. 21 women whose lives and whose fundamental contribution have remained little known for years and precisely for this reason they should be remembered and told today.
