Michela Matteoli is a Professor of Pharmacology at Humanitas University, Director of the Institute of Neuroscience at CNR, and Coordinator of the Neuro Center at Humanitas Research Hospital.

It is a member of the European Molecular Biology Organisation (EMBO), the Academia Europaea and, since 2022, of the Accademia dei Lincei.

He was part of the International Scientific Advisory Board of the Paris School of Neuroscience, the Institute of Neuroscience and Psychiatry of the University Paris-Descartes, the Center for Integrative Research in Biology at the Collège de France, and the Umberto Veronesi Foundation.

He is a member of international scientific committees, including the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) and the European Research Council (ERC).

She has been invited as a speaker to more than a hundred international conferences and prestigious research institutes.

In 2013, she received the Mid-Career Mentoring Award from the journal Nature, the Athena Award for scientific merits in 2015, the Feltrinelli Prize for Physiology, Biochemistry, and Pharmacology in 2019, and the Sgarlata Prize in 2022. In 2011, she received the Technovisionaries® Award for Nano Tech.

Her research focuses on synapses and how the immune system influences their formation and function. She is the author of approximately 170 publications, with an H-index of 73 (Google Scholar).
