Head of Tissue Therapy / Plastic Surgery and Major Burn Center, Niguarda Ca' Granda Hospital.

Graduated in Medicine and Surgery, he specialized in Surgery of the digestive system and surgical digestive endoscopy. He received from the President of the Republic the "Honorary title of Knight of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic".

Currently, he is in charge of the Tissue Therapy Department and Director of the Regional Reference Center for in vitro human epidermis culture and Tissue Cryopreservation Bank, where he coordinates laboratory activities for the production of keratinocyte sheets, artificial dermis, chondrocyte and fibroblast suspensions, and the activities of the collecting physicians, medical staff, and laboratory technicians.

From 1982 to 1991, he collaborated with the Center for the Study of Wound Healing (Director Prof. Emilio Trabucchi) at the University of Milan on research on wound healing; he was a Tutor and taught in the academic years 91/92, 98/99 at the 1st Specialization School in Plastic Surgery; he also collaborated with the Center for the Study of Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering in Plastic Surgery (Director Prof. Luigi Donati) at the University of Milan.

He was a tutor at the Faculty of Law of the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Piacenza regarding the Medico-Legal Aspects of Human Biological Materials derived from Tissue Engineering. Since 1998, he has been a teacher at the International School of Tissue Repair organized by the Department of Experimental Pathology, Medical Biotechnologies, Infectious Diseases and Epidemiology of the Dermatological Clinic at the University of Pisa.

He was a member of the working group for the development of "Guidelines for the safety and quality of experimentation in cellular therapy and the use of Tissue Engineering products", organized by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Department for the National Coordination of Community Policies, National Committee for Biosafety and Biotechnologies.

He was a member of the Regional working group with advisory functions and verification tasks related to the collection and transplantation activities of the Lombardy Region. He is an Inspector of the National Transplant Center to conduct inspections of the Banks throughout the national territory.

She is on the Board of Directors of AIUC (Italian Association of Skin Ulcers). She collaborates as Editorial Advisory Board of the International Wound Journal and the journal Acta Vulnologica, Minerva Medica. She is part of the scientific committee of Neurothon, and the Italian Diabetes Foundation Onlus.

International Collaborations:

  • with Harvard University, specifically with Prof. J. Burke from Boston, U.S.A, regarding Tissue Engineering.
  • with Prof. Vincent Falanga, on the topic of tissue repair and specifically on Wound Bed Preparation, from the Department of Dermatology and Skin Surgery at the Boston University School of Medicine, U.S.A.
