Curriculum

Laura Riva was born in 1993 in the province of Monza and Brianza. In 2018, she graduated with honors in Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technology from the University of Milan. Subsequently, she obtained her PhD in Industrial Chemistry and Chemical Engineering in 2021 from the Polytechnic University of Milan, with the highest marks.

Currently, she is a junior researcher (RTD-A) at the Department of Chemistry, Materials and Chemical Engineering “G. Natta” of the Politecnico di Milano, a position she has held since March 2023. During her PhD, conducted in collaboration with Innovhub–SSI Carta e Cartone and focused on the valorization of cellulosic biomass for the production of functional nanomaterials, she spent a research period in France, at the LGP2 laboratory (Laboratory of Pulp and Paper Science) of INP-Pagora in Grenoble.

His scientific activity focuses on the production, characterization, and application of nanocellulose derived from virgin and waste sources, used for the synthesis of nanostructured materials. Such materials are employed in sectors such as environmental decontamination, sensing, heterogeneous catalysis, and sustainable packaging. Particular attention is given to aspects of environmental sustainability, explored through Life Cycle Assessment and eco-safety studies.

She is co-author of 20 scientific articles in international journals, three book chapters, and a patent. She actively collaborates with national and international research groups.

Since 2025, he has been a National Counselor of the Young Group of the Italian Chemical Society, representing those under 35 of the Division of Chemistry for Technologies.

In her private life, she has been married since 2021 to Mattia, with whom she shares a passion for music, playing together in various local musical associations.
