The National Institute for Insurance against Accidents at Work (Inail) is a public entity, non-profit and financially independent, which manages in Italy the mandatory insurance against accidents at work and occupational diseases. Since the first law, dating back to the end of the nineteenth century, the protection provided by Inail has increasingly been characterized as a system of comprehensive and integrated protection that ranges from compensation, prevention actions in the workplace, health and economic benefits, care, rehabilitation, and reintegration into the social and work life of individuals who have suffered damages as a result of accidents at work or occupational diseases. In the last years, Inail's mission has expanded to include research, certification, and verification activities. Inail has thus assumed the strategic function of a Health and Safety Hub in Italy.
