Chief Investigator at the Madrid Institute for Advanced Studies (IMDEA)-food
Professor Francesco Visioli graduated in Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technology from the University of Milan and obtained a Ph.D. in Biotechnology from the University of Brescia. He is currently the Chief Investigator at the Madrid Institute for Advanced Studies (IMDEA) - Food.
From 2006 to 2010 he was a professor of physiopathology at the Université Pierre et Marie Curie - Paris 6 (Paris), where he directed the laboratory of "Micronutrients and cardiovascular diseases". Francesco Visioli is also a Faculty member at the College of Pharmacy at Oregon State University, where he has spent long periods of study.
Professor Visioli's research areas focus on the study of natural antioxidants (flavonoids, polyphenols), in relation to cardiovascular pathology based on atherosclerosis, and essential omega-3 fatty acids. In particular, the research group to which Francesco Visioli belonged discovered and elucidated the biological and pharmacological activities of the phenolic components of olive oil, also conducting studies in humans.
Professor Visioli is the author of over 200 scientific publications, over half of which have appeared in international journals with peer review, and monographs. These publications have been cited approximately 5600 times. To date, Professor Visioli has been invited to about 70 national and international meetings.
Editor-in-Chief of Pharmacological Research and PharmaNutrition, Associate Editor of Lipids and Prostaglandins, Leukotrienes and Essential Fatty, Professor Visioli is also a member of the Board of Directors of the International Society for the Study of Fatty Acids and Lipids (ISSFAL), of which he has directed the journal. Currently, he is the Leader of the Fats and Human Health Division of the Eurofed Lipid organization.
