He is a full professor of Urban Sociology at the Department of Sociology and Social Research at the University of Milan-Bicocca. He is the Mobility Manager of the University of Milan-Bicocca.

Delegate of the Rector of the University of Milan Bicocca for the Expo 2015 activities and European Research Council Member for the panel "Environment, Space and Population" in the Starting Grant 2014 evaluation.

He coordinated the PhD Research on the Information Society "Projects Quality of Life in the Information Society" (QUA_SI) from 2007 to 2013.

In 2011, she was appointed by the mayor as delegate for Equal Opportunities for the Municipality of Milan. Expert appointed by the Ministry of University and Scientific and Technological Research (Miur) for the VII Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development (2007-2013).

Among the themes of her research are gender inequalities and the theme of rebalancing female presence in the economy and politics. Urban poverty and city transformations are analyzed from a gender perspective through the PeriMetro Laboratory (Laboratory of Metropolitan Peripheries) which she has been directing since 2004.
