International Award "Tecnovisionarie®" 2024Donatella Giacosa, graduated with honors in Biological Sciences from the University of Turin, registered with the PLV Biologists Association, is the Head of the Biological Laboratory at the Metropolitan Water Company Torino SpA (SMAT).
For over 30 years, her professional career has been focused on water: she considers it a privilege to have been involved in studies of the water sector in Antarctica and the Venetian lagoon environment; since 1996, her work has been carried out at SMAT, the integrated water service provider in the Turin ATO3 area. She is responsible for the management of the Biological Laboratory, accredited UNI EN ISO 17025, the planning and implementation of actions for continuous improvement in the areas of quality, accreditation, occupational safety, emergency management, anomalies, and quality complaints. She also deals with ecotoxicology, online monitoring of surface waters with biosensors for early warning, monitoring of the trophic status of water resources destined for drinking water treatment, and support in decision-making processes aimed at identifying and managing innovative drinking water treatment processes. She collaborates in the management and control of the bottled water bottling line and is responsible for monitoring the "PuntiAcqua" kiosks.
He managed the production and monitoring of water for aerospace use for the ATV project missions, the flight water supplied to the International Space Station, and the preconditioning water needed for the previous phases.
She has participated in international training and twinning projects with regulatory bodies and managers of the water service; collaborates in the preparation of documents for tenders and projects, in the implementation of work packages of funded projects, is dedicated to mentoring internal and external staff involved in study and research projects, in the planning and implementation of corporate applied research activities; participates in seminars, working groups, scientific updating meetings and for innovation, carries out corporate and external scientific dissemination activities.
She is the author of over 50 publications related to the water sector.
