Chiara Tonelli is a Professor of Plant Functional Genomics at the University of Milan and head of the Molecular Genetics of Plants group at the Department of Biomolecular Sciences and Biotechnologies in Milan. She is a member of the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO).
He has been a member of numerous scientific committees and scientific advisory boards in Italy and abroad. He is currently a member of the Steering Group of the European Commission for Food, Agriculture, Fisheries and Biotechnology, and of the European expert group for food and health research, a member of the scientific advisory board of JPI "Healthy Diet for Healthy Life", a member of the European Plant Science Organisation (EPSO), a member of the technological research committee of the University of Milan. He was a member of the CNR and in the biological safety committee of the Italian Ministry of the Environment.
He has published more than 100 papers in international scientific journals and has been responsible for several projects funded by Italian and European Agencies. He is a reviewer for several scientific journals (Molecular Cell, Molecular and Cellular Biology, EMBO Journal, Plant Cell, Plant Journal, Plant Molecular Biology) and funding agencies (USDA, EMBO, TWAS, Human Frontier, ERC).
Since 2005, Chiara has been the Secretary General of the World Conference on the Future of Science, a series of international conferences that bring together eminent experts from various disciplines to discuss the implications of scientific progress and raise awareness in society, not only of the benefits of science, but also of the problems and dilemmas that the continuous scientific discoveries create.
