Carmela Di Gregorio obtained her degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Florence on 10/10/1977, with top marks and honors. She specialized in Pathological Anatomy and Histology at the University of Trieste on 11/07/1980, again with top marks and honors. She worked as a Hospital Medical Assistant at the Institute of Pathological Anatomy and Histology of the University of Modena, and later as head of the Organizational Departmental Module of Pathological Anatomy and Histology at the Carpi Hospital, Modena Health Agency. Currently, she holds the position of a simple structure called "Pathology of hereditary tumors: optimization of diagnostic therapeutic pathways" at the Institute of Pathological Anatomy and Histology of the Hospital-University Company of Modena. Her scientific activity has focused on the development of research lines in the field of gastrointestinal pathology, gastric and especially colorectal oncology, with particular attention to the clinical, pathological, and biomolecular characterization of early-onset colorectal cancer, and the identification and clinical, immunohistochemical, and biomolecular characterization of hereditary colorectal cancer syndromes.
