RESEARCH INTEREST
His research has focused on the cellular mechanisms that ensure longevity and on the extracellular and intracellular signals that regulate them. In Dr. Cristofalo's laboratory in Philadelphia, he dedicated himself to the study of intracellular signals that regulate cell proliferation and senescence. He also analyzed the different replicative capacities of cells from various mammals, evaluating their correlation with the species' longevity. With Dr. Sell at Drexel University, he studied the endocrine regulation of longevity, aiming to separate the influence on longevity of the hormones GH and IGF-1. Currently, at the Department of Biomedical and Neuromotor Sciences at the University of Bologna, he studies how signals generated in the cell after DNA damage influence the progression of the cell cycle. For this purpose, he uses a comparative approach using a cell bank composed of samples from mammals of different longevities.
