Aimee Mullins

Athlete and model

Curriculum

"Where others see a limitation, I see a possibility." At the age of one year, Aimee Mullins had both legs amputated below the knee due to hypoplasia. Today, at 33 years old, she is a model, actress, and athlete: she has competed against able-bodied athletes, participated in the 1996 Atlanta Paralympics, and has set world records in the 100 meters, 200 meters, and long jump.

Aimee Mullins dedicates part of her time to supporting and promoting various non-profit organizations, including Just One Break, an American association of which she is Vice President, which helps find jobs for people with various disabilities; and the Women's Sports Foundation. Her favorite motto is: "Confidence is the sexiest thing a woman can have. It's much sexier than any body part" (Oprah Magazine, May 2004).
