PRESS RELEASE FUTURECAMP for Bio and NanoTech, Milan Young people towards research and innovation: biotechnology and nanotechnology for health Wednesday, October 6, 2010, Province of Milan, Via Vivaio 1, Palazzo Isimbardi, Council Room, from 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM. Italy was the birthplace of the experimental method applied to science, first proposed by Galileo Galilei in the 17th century. The society we live in increasingly bases its development on the creation of new knowledge through scientific research and discoveries, and the related technological applications. Italian universities, however, are often characterized by the so-called "brain drain," where a large number of brilliant recent graduates start their careers in laboratories outside national borders. The reasons for this phenomenon can also be found upstream in the educational process, where young people are not adequately informed about the perspectives and professional future that prestigious institutions can offer in the world of research in Italy. From the need for greater information and guidance on the paths and skills necessary to embark on a career in the research and innovation sector, especially in cutting-edge fields such as biotechnology and nanotechnology, the idea of FUTURECAMP for Bio and NanoTech was born. Through encounters with these realities, participants can receive information and find inspiration to begin their own path of growth in the field of basic and applied innovation in biotechnology and nanotechnology: a unique opportunity to connect with people working in these sectors who can provide important insights into their professional experiences. The event speakers will be research directors, researchers, and directors of doctoral schools in System Medicine and Molecular Medicine operating within the IFOM-IEO CAMPUS in Milan and the Laboratories of Advanced Technologies at the University of Milan. The event will also feature representatives from major industries and centers in the biotechnology, information technology, and technology transfer sectors. To further engage young people in the educational path related to a research doctorate, the first step towards accessing this professional career, some female research doctorates will also provide their essential testimony. FUTURECAMP is an initiative promoted by the Association of Women and Technologies as part of the annual events leading up to the conference. All material related to the event (audio-video recordings are also planned) will be made available to all those interested on the website www.womentech.info and on connected social media (blogs and 2.0 communities), with the possibility of commenting on the content. |
