Milan, September 26, 2017 - Thursday September 28, the XII edition of " FutureCamp Europe: job projects for young people " will take place: an interactive meeting, conceived and organized by the Women and Technologies Association , with the collaboration of COSP (Center for Orientation to Study and Professions) of the University of Milan. The event is aimed at young people, teachers, and parents interested in discovering and understanding how to enter and navigate in emerging professional sectors in Europe in the near future.
FutureCamp Europe: Biotech will take place within the IV edition of the European Biotech Week: an entire week (from September 25th to October 1st) dedicated to the biotechnology sector and promoted by EuropaBio (European Association of Biotechnology). Assobiotec is the Italian partner of the event and the promoter of numerous initiatives throughout the national territory, aimed at raising awareness about the role of biotechnology in improving quality of life.
"Microbiome: the good, the bad, and the ugly..." is the topic discussed in the 2017 edition of "FutureCamp Europe, with the participation of experts from various sectors, from medicine to agri-food, to cooking, who will guide participants through a fantastic journey in a world waiting to be discovered, opening doors to rapidly developing professional opportunities.
Our body hosts about 100 trillion microbial cells, most of which are harmless, and many are important for our health (for example, contributing to digestive processes or supporting the immune system). However, some microorganisms are harmful to the human body that hosts them and have been associated with numerous pathological conditions. The set of microbial cells that inhabit the body are defined as "microbiome".
The increase in knowledge related to the microbiome is becoming an attraction for the biotechnological industry, so much so that many companies are trying to develop new therapies that alter the microbiome for the benefit of health, both as drugs and as food supplements, or to exploit the potential of the microbiome to improve aesthetic appearance. However, the exploitation of the microbiome can find application in various other sectors, such as environmental and vegetation health, in general in the agricultural or agri-food sector, in the energy production sector, etc.
According to Daniela Jabès, member of the Board of Directors of the Association, creator and coordinator of the event: " In the future we will see the microbiome as a "silent assistant" in many sectors of our lives, and the need for new professional profiles will grow to meet the increasing demand for highly specialized professionalism.".
"Through direct interaction and comparison with these realities, more than 180 students from ITIS Enrico Mattei in San Donato Milanese, ITIS Cannizzaro in Rho, and Istituto Leone III in Milan, will be able to receive theoretical and practical information and draw inspiration for the definition and construction of a study path in line with their inclinations and the demands of the job market," commented Maria Luisa Nolli, current president of the Association.
They will bring their testimony: Fabio Piccini, Fabio Rinaldi, Diego Mora, Carlo Nesler, Maria Luisa Nolli, Daniela Jabes, Marina Carini.
Among others, Rita Fucci, Veronica Cremonesi, Giusi Gambino, Barbara Rosina will be present.
Participants will receive documentation and gadgets provided by Federchimica, COSP, and Women&Tech - Women and Technology Association.
